Each specialty has its own words: eponyms, drug names, scores and procedure names that a general dictation tool has never seen. VoicePrivate groups its medical dictionary by specialty. The lists below cover every specialty in the app's picker, how many specialty terms it carries, and a dictation guide where one exists. Each guide covers that specialty's note types, the terms general tools get wrong, a worked dictation example and how the text gets into your EHR.

How specialty choice works
On Mac, choose your specialty in Settings. VoicePrivate then primes recognition with that specialty's core terms, and a long misheard word that is a near miss of one of them is matched to the specialty term first. Podiatry also turns on foot and ankle context rules, such as "planter plate" to "plantar plate". On Windows the picker is not shown and the full dictionary is used for every note. Either way, all 75,374 terms stay available, and you can add your own or import a Dragon word list.
Text is pasted where your cursor is after you press the hotkey to stop. Speech is processed on your computer: audio never leaves it and nothing is sent to a cloud service.

Specialty questions
Do I pay extra for a specialty?
No. Every specialty vocabulary is included in Healthcare Edition.
Can I choose more than one specialty?
The Mac picker takes one specialty at a time. Terms from every other specialty are still recognized, and you can add any word to your own dictionary.
Is the specialty picker on Windows?
No. Windows uses the full medical dictionary for every note, so there is nothing to choose.
My specialty has no guide yet. Is it supported?
Yes. Every specialty in the vocabulary table has its own vocabulary in the app. A guide page only explains the workflow for that specialty.
