A urology day splits between clinic and the procedure room. Clinic notes track lower urinary tract symptoms, PSA, imaging and medication changes. Procedure notes describe cystoscopy findings, a TURBT, or a ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy and a stent. General dictation writes "varicocelectamy", turns "alfuzosin" into a guess and leaves "postvoid residual" in pieces. The Healthcare dictionary in VoicePrivate has 716 urology terms, with nephrology and oncology terms alongside.

Prostate cancer
PSA trend, MRI with PI-RADS, transperineal prostate biopsy results, active surveillance or treatment plan.
Hematuria and bladder
CT urogram and cystoscopy findings, TURBT procedure notes with tumor size and location, intravesical therapy.
Stones
Ureteral calculus size and location, ureteroscopy with holmium or thulium laser lithotripsy, ureteral stent size and removal plan.
Urology words general dictation gets wrong
- "varicocelectamy" to varicocelectomy and "hydrocelectamy" to hydrocelectomy
- "5-alfa reductase inhibitor" to 5-alpha reductase inhibitor
- "al-FYOO-zoh-sin" to alfuzosin
- "holmium laser stone" to holmium laser lithotripsy
- "sa level" to PSA level
- "low flow priapism" to low-flow priapism
- "indwelling catheter" to Foley catheter
These pairs are from the urology list in the Healthcare dictionary, which stores what was misheard next to the correct term.
What choosing Urology does
On Mac, open Settings and set the Medical specialty to Urology. Recognition is then primed with benign prostatic hyperplasia, lower urinary tract symptoms, postvoid residual, tamsulosin, finasteride, dutasteride, prostate specific antigen, PI-RADS, transperineal, prostate biopsy, hematuria, cystoscopy, TURBT, CT urogram, ureteral calculus, ureteral stent, ureteroscopy, lithotripsy, nephrolithiasis, tadalafil, sildenafil, overactive bladder and mirabegron. A long misheard word that is a near miss of one of them is matched to it first. Windows has no picker and uses the full medical dictionary.
Example: ureteroscopy op note
- Indication. Click into the op note, press Command+Shift+Space and say: "8 millimeter left proximal ureteral calculus on CT, failed medical expulsive therapy with tamsulosin." Press the hotkey again.
- Procedure: press the hotkey and say: "Cystoscopy, left retrograde pyelogram, semirigid then flexible ureteroscopy. Holmium laser lithotripsy to dust and small fragments, basket extraction of 3 fragments." Press the hotkey again.
- Findings and stent: press the hotkey and say: "No residual fragments over 2 millimeters. 6 French by 26 centimeter ureteral stent placed with string." Press the hotkey again.
- Plan: press the hotkey and say: "Stent removal by string in 5 days. Stone analysis sent. Follow up renal ultrasound in 6 weeks." Press the hotkey again.
Into your EHR
VoicePrivate pastes through the clipboard and then puts back what you had copied, so there is nothing to integrate. It works in the text fields of Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner), athenahealth, ModMed, eClinicalWorks and NextGen, and in operative note templates that accept a paste. If the EHR runs in Citrix or another remote desktop, that session must allow clipboard redirection from your computer. The EHR dictation guide covers each system.
On-device facts
Speech is processed on the Mac or Windows PC that runs VoicePrivate. Audio never leaves that computer, and nothing is sent to a cloud service. With Auto-save transcriptions on, which is the default, each dictation is also kept in the app's Library on that computer. Turn it off in Settings if you want the EHR to hold the only copy.
Price
Healthcare Edition is $297 a year or $34.99 a month per clinician. There is no free trial. Individual monthly and annual plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first payment. Urology groups of 2 to 20 clinicians can buy team seats.
Urology dictation FAQ
Does it handle stent sizes and PSA values?
Yes. Say them as you would write them, such as "6 French by 26 centimeter". Read the pasted numbers before signing.
Can I dictate op notes?
Yes. Dictate into the operative note field or template in your EHR, section by section.
Does text appear while I talk?
No. Press the hotkey to start and again to stop. The finished text is pasted a moment later.
Does it know urology drugs?
Yes. Alpha blockers, 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, beta-3 agonists and PDE5 inhibitors are in the Healthcare dictionary, with corrections for common mishearings.
Is there a free trial?
No. Individual monthly and annual plans are charged at checkout with a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first payment. Team plans and renewals are not covered.
Urology overlaps with surgical dictation for op notes, oncology dictation for prostate and bladder cancer and radiology dictation for CT and MRI reads. For dictating op notes outside the EHR, see dictation for doctors.
