About VoicePrivate
On-device voice-to-text for Mac and Windows. Founded 2026. Governed by Ontario, Canada law.
Why we built it
We used cloud dictation tools first. We tried more than one. We did not trust any of them with the work we actually do. The audio had to leave the machine, and that was the deal. Looking at those products is what decided it: if we wanted dictation we could live with, we had to build our own, and it had to run locally.
We used that local build for months in testing. We still use it every day in our own business. It saves us a lot of time. After it held up under daily use, we released it to the public as VoicePrivate.
What we make
VoicePrivate is desktop dictation software. You speak, the words appear in the app that has focus, and the audio is processed on that computer. It runs on macOS 13 and later and on Windows 10 and 11. There are five editions: General, Healthcare, Legal, Finance, and Insurance. Specialty editions add domain vocabulary. They do not change where the audio is processed.

What we do not do
VoicePrivate does not run a transcription server. The desktop app does not upload your audio. It does not require an account to transcribe. It is not an iPhone or Android product. There is no free trial and no free tier. You buy a plan and you have 14 days to ask for a refund. Prices live on the pricing page.
The marketing website uses analytics (Google Analytics, PostHog, Clarity). That is the website, not the app. The privacy policy separates the two. Read Privacy and Why local processing.
Who it is for
People who want dictation without sending the recording to a vendor. Lawyers, Clinicians, Advisors, and Claims Staff use the specialty editions because the vocabulary matches the work. Anyone who wants the same engine without a specialty dictionary uses General.
