Vascular surgery dictation is anatomy and measurements. A peripheral arterial disease visit records claudication distance, the ankle brachial index and the arterial duplex findings by segment. A carotid visit gives the internal carotid artery stenosis on each side. Aortic surveillance tracks an abdominal aortic aneurysm diameter or an endoleak after EVAR. Venous clinic documents reflux in the great saphenous vein before endovenous ablation or sclerotherapy. Operative reports describe a femoral popliteal bypass, carotid endarterectomy or atherectomy in order. A tool that does not know the vessel names forces you to type them.
Vascular Surgery words general dictation gets wrong
General dictation software is trained on everyday speech, so vascular surgery terms come out as near misses. Each row below is a misheard form listed in the VoicePrivate Healthcare dictionary and the term it is corrected to:
| Misheard as | VoicePrivate writes |
|---|---|
| periferal arterial disease | peripheral arterial disease |
| claudicaton | claudication |
| popliteel artery | popliteal artery |
| great safenous vein | great saphenous vein |
| atherectamy | atherectomy |
| carotid endarterectomie | carotid endarterectomy |
| internal caroted artery | internal carotid artery |
| abdominal aortic aneursym | abdominal aortic aneurysm |
| critical limb iskemia | critical limb ischemia |
| sclerotherapee | sclerotherapy |
| thromboflebitis | thrombophlebitis |
| fasciotamy | fasciotomy |
| brakial artery | brachial artery |
| sealiac trunk | celiac trunk |
Shorthand you say out loud is covered too: the dictionary lists "fem pop bypass" for femoral popliteal bypass and "triple A" for abdominal aortic aneurysm.
What choosing Vascular Surgery changes
In the Mac app, Settings has a Medical specialty picker with 32 specialties plus General. Choosing Vascular Surgery does two things on your computer:
- It gives recognition the 20 Vascular Surgery core terms to expect: peripheral arterial disease, claudication, ankle brachial index, arterial duplex, superficial femoral artery, popliteal artery, cilostazol, femoral popliteal bypass, great saphenous vein, atherectomy, carotid endarterectomy, internal carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm, EVAR, endoleak, chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins, endovenous ablation, sclerotherapy, critical limb ischemia.
- A long misheard word that is a near miss of one of those core terms is matched to it instead of a general word.
The Healthcare dictionary tags 616 terms to Vascular Surgery, counted October 2026, and all 74,000+ medical terms stay available whichever specialty you choose. On Windows there is no specialty picker: the full medical dictionary and its corrections apply to every note.
Vascular Surgery notes by type
Peripheral arterial disease clinic
Claudication distance, rest pain or tissue loss, ankle brachial index, arterial duplex of the superficial femoral artery and popliteal artery, cilostazol and the plan for intervention.
Carotid disease
Symptoms, internal carotid artery stenosis by duplex or CT angiography and the decision between surveillance and carotid endarterectomy.
Aortic surveillance
Abdominal aortic aneurysm diameter and growth, EVAR planning and post EVAR imaging with or without an endoleak.
Venous clinic
Chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins, reflux of the great saphenous vein, compression trial, endovenous ablation and sclerotherapy.
Operative reports
Femoral popliteal bypass, carotid endarterectomy, atherectomy and angioplasty, thrombectomy, fasciotomy and arteriovenous fistula creation.
Limb salvage
Critical limb ischemia with wounds, revascularization plans and coordination with podiatry and wound care.
Example: dictating a peripheral arterial disease visit
Here is the visit dictated one section at a time. Every bold term is in the VoicePrivate medical dictionary.
- In the HPI box, press Command+Shift+Space and say: "Seventy year old smoker with peripheral arterial disease and lifestyle limiting claudication of the right calf at one block." Press the hotkey again.
- In the data section, press Command+Shift+Space and say: "Ankle brachial index 0.62 right, 0.91 left. Arterial duplex shows a long segment occlusion of the right superficial femoral artery reconstituting at the above knee popliteal artery." Press the hotkey again.
- In the assessment, press Command+Shift+Space and say: "No rest pain or tissue loss, so not critical limb ischemia. Great saphenous vein mapped and adequate." Press the hotkey again.
- In the plan, press Command+Shift+Space and say: "Smoking cessation counselling. Start cilostazol 100 milligrams twice daily and a supervised walking program. Discussed femoral popliteal bypass versus atherectomy if symptoms persist at 3 months." Press the hotkey again.
Each time you press the hotkey to stop, VoicePrivate transcribes on your computer and pastes the finished text at your cursor. Text does not appear while you are still speaking. It arrives in one block when you stop, so read the values and doses once and sign.
Getting the text into your EHR
VoicePrivate works with any EHR that accepts a paste, because it pastes through the clipboard rather than through a plug in. That includes Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner), athenahealth, eClinicalWorks and NextGen. Vascular labs often report duplex studies in their own reporting system; if it accepts a paste, the same hotkey works there. The workflow is the same everywhere:
- Click into the note field, such as the HPI, assessment or plan box.
- Press Command+Shift+Space on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+Space on Windows and dictate.
- Press the hotkey again. The text is pasted where your cursor is, and with Auto-copy to clipboard off, the default, your previous clipboard contents are put back.
If your EHR runs inside Citrix or another remote desktop, the remote session must allow clipboard redirection from your computer. Most IT teams can turn this on per user. VoicePrivate runs on the local Mac or PC, not inside the remote session. The EHR dictation guide covers each system.
Privacy, stated as facts
VoicePrivate processes speech on the computer it is installed on. Audio never leaves the computer and nothing is sent to a cloud service for transcription. Your notes live in your EHR, the same as if you had typed them. Your practice still decides how the EHR itself is secured and what agreements it has with vendors. With Auto-save transcriptions on, which is the default, each dictation is also kept in the app's Library on that computer. Turn it off in Settings if you do not want a Library copy. Auto-copy to clipboard is off by default; if you turn it on, the text also stays on the clipboard after it is pasted, so leave it off if the EHR should hold the only copy.

Vascular Surgery dictation questions
Does VoicePrivate know vascular surgery terms?
Yes. The Healthcare dictionary tags 616 terms to Vascular Surgery, and the Vascular Surgery core list includes ankle brachial index, arterial duplex, superficial femoral artery, carotid endarterectomy, EVAR, endoleak, endovenous ablation, sclerotherapy and critical limb ischemia. On Mac, choosing Vascular Surgery in Settings favours those core terms.
Can I dictate duplex measurements?
Yes. Say values as you would read them, such as "ankle brachial index 0.62 on the right". Read the numbers once before you sign, as you would with any dictation.
Is there a vascular surgery setting on Windows?
The specialty picker is in the Mac app. On Windows, the full 74,000+ term medical dictionary applies to every note, including the vascular surgery terms.
Does text appear while I am talking?
No. Press the hotkey to start, press it again to stop, and VoicePrivate pastes the finished text at your cursor a moment later.
Is there a free trial?
No. Individual monthly and annual plans are charged at checkout and include a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first payment. Team plans and renewals are not covered.
